“Guilty Party: Basilica Hudson”

Guilty Party: Basilica Hudson is an 80-minute concert film of The National’s performance at Basilica Hudson in New York in 2017. This unique concert placed the band in the centre of the venue, surrounded by fans in the round, while they performed the entirety of their then-latest record, ‘Sleep Well Beast’.

PROCESS

Using a combination of handheld cameras, circular dollies and a 30’ techno-crane, we set out to capture this performance in all its glory. Working for the iconic French live music company La Blogothèque - we collaborated to achieve a kinetic visual style that reflected the electric feeling in the room as the band played in the round, surrounded by their most avid fans in this intimate space. Interviews with the musicians, b-roll and 16mm footage added important context and perspective on this unique performance.
